Sun Karma
I grew up in the slums in Virginia,
and had a quite happy childhood playing in shopping carts and feeding the ducks
every Sunday at the neighborhood park. I was surrounded by books and immersed
in education. At the age of three I was taught to read by my grandmother, and
was in my first play at age four. I read my first classic novel at the same age:
Bram Stoker's Dracula (a book that has influenced me to this day).
I wrote my first story at age four: which I still have a copy of!
Although modeling and acting were not my first career choices (I wanted to be a doctor and go to Harvard), my mother entered me into pageants and put me into 'charm' schools. My mother was an actress herself after having gone to school to study theology, and she knew four different languages (all of which she taught me). Accomplishment was in my blood, so to speak, to become an actress or to attain some form of notoriety. I was in the newspaper at age seven. I submitted a question to the newspaper's section for children. My picture was in the paper and I was interviewed. That was my fifteen minutes of fame. I was later an AKA debutante and I was in the paper for that as well. I finally gave in and went to modeling school at age twelve. It was a unique and fun experience, but I didn't think much of it. I signed with a local agency but only got a few jobs due to the market that I was in (Virginia sucks for modeling) and became the agency 'makeup artist,' instead, as makeup was much more fun (and lucrative) for me. I decided not to work at a counter and be a slave to the makeup brush, but to go to college - so I tried to get into something more solid into high school. I chose journalism.
One summer I was chosen out of five-hundred students to specially attend a summer workshop for journalism after being editor for my school paper in high school. I produced and was photojournalist for the paper for the workshop - where my work was featured as some of the best writing and photojournalism the workshop had seen in years. I was then determined to pursue journalism and write. I went to England and got a Bachelor's in Communications. I then came back home and was depressed at the state of the written word -- I wrote
for the local newspaper here for one year, hated the deadlines and the lack of creativity, and decided to go back to school to study art. I got my BFA in art soon after and intended to pursue working at a museum. Being dismayed by the (measley) pay and the lack of
jobs in my area, I decided to write again, but this time, not for a paper -- for
publication. After attending school for a third and final time to get a degree in psychology, I authored several books running the gamut from creative writing to schizophrenia research. I also started a few online stores
in order to keep me busy where I did the HTML/Web design (another one of my talents):
KarmaKola and Something Witchy.
I had not thought about modeling since then. I still did makeup on the side, but I put modeling behind me. Sure, I choreographed a few fashion shows in college for some organizations, but I had not thought about it. Until a few years ago. What really did it for me was my
total transformation from a size 24 (college was not kind!) to a size
0/2. People stood up and took notice of me at this point and my modeling
career again came to the forefront of my mind. The Maury Povich show picked
me up and put me in an episode (Geeks to Chic) and Jenny Jones even had
me on the show for the assets of a 38D chest, my 137 IQ, and the nine books
I have written (Brainy Busty Babes) but there was something MORE to it
than just looks, and I was born to be that something more. I pursued an education after my M.S.
in counseling (I went BACK to school again). I decided to pursue a PhD in psychology and to eventually
work with people with severe mental disorders (schizophrenia), abused women,
and eventually do criminal profiling. I continued with my research and
wrote four books under a pen name (The Split Brain: An Analysis of Schizophrenia;
The Split Brain II: Alternative Research; Non Traditional Families; and
Noise: The Story Of Dr. Rosemary Rodgers) as well as authoring several
creative writing books (Swallowing Jewels; Musings of a Mad Madam; Absinthe;
and the forthcoming I'm With Stupid: Dating Stories From the Edge of Sanity).
Now, I must admit, this throws people a little off when I tell them these
things about me...as most people think all models are vapid and don't even
have college degrees (let alone three). But I have the paper and the persistence
to prove them differently!
With my training in classical dance
(ballet), jazz, and hip hop, my acting abilities and my modeling skills, I
plan to take the modeling world by storm with my unique look and my edgy
attitude. Besides modeling, I also am an accomplished makeup artist who
has worked for companies such as Lancome, M.A.C. Cosmetics, Smashbox, and Freelance
all over the East Coast as well as for modeling agencies in my area. I
have served as account manager for several skin care lines and I am a certified
skin care provider (esthetician) and licensed in many areas in skin
care as well as holistic skin care (ayurveda). If you are looking for the
'complete package' model/actress/dancer/makeup artist: one person that
can do it all and do it all WELL, look no further.
